Alexandra Community Hub: a brief overview of beginnings to the present day.

Alexandra Community Hub (Alex Hub) was first founded in 1983 by Virginia Linton-Smith and Joan Broughan.  It was orignally named C.E.A.C.A., this stood for Continuing Education and Arts Centre of Alexandra.  Upon achieving funding recognition for neighbourhood house status in October 2018, CEACA was rebranded to its' present day name of Alexandra Community Hub (also affectionately known as the Alex Hub).

Back in 1983, Virginia and Joan identified a need and saw an empty building.  The vision; to bring Adult Education to Alexandra.  Originally situated in the “Frontier House” of the now Menzies Centre until 1990, the organisation moved to the current location in the historic old Alexandra Court House precinct.

For the first 9 years it ran primarily as an arts centre and a place to learn locally.  To further educational prospects in the region, Registered Training Organisation status was achieved in 1992.  This allowed for nationally recognised certificate courses  to be delivered in the Murrindindi Shire.  A great step to enable students of all ages to study locally.

In 2018 recognising the activities and broader services offered to the community, the Department of Education granted Neighbourhood House funding.  The name Alexandra Community Hub was born.  In recognition of this this milestone, the team and the Board decided it was time for a new look, brand, website and name change to reflect the organisation’s important role and ever changing service to the community.

Today, the Alexandra Community Hub is overseen by a Board of Management and supported by partner organisations, a great team of employees and dedicated volunteers from the local community.

The Alex Hub offers a broad range of community services and continues to welcome and provided students of all abilities and ages from diverse backgrounds with the opportunity to learn and develop skills in a safe and healthy, education and social environment, locally.

We thank all those with the vision and energy of the past, present and look forward to a bright and fore-filling future for all.
